House in Hayama

Project Overview

The project began with the client’s request for an open-air resort feeling and an outdoor space where they could enjoy time with their beloved dog undisturbed. While the site is in an area dotted with vacation homes, its position within a residential neighborhood with narrow, winding roads presented a key challenge: preserving privacy while screening views from neighboring houses and the front road.

To block views from the surroundings while connecting inside and outside, the house was designed around a central courtyard. This strategy creates a protected open-air heart, improves daylight and ventilation, and maintains a calm sequence of private outdoor moments within a compact residential footprint.
